At May 1967 domestic fowling has got the scientific base on behalf of newly created experienced station. Today North Caucasus zonal experimental station has two statuses: pedigree piant on breeding of turkeys and genepooled farm on keeping the native genepool of rare breeds of turkeys and their breeding.

Main kinds of activity are:

  • taking selective breeding and pedigree work,
  • keeping genepool,
  • creating new crosses of turkeys;
  • production the incubator eggs of turkeys;
  • incubatory ofthe turkeys' eggs and further reproduction of flock;
  • incubatory ofthe turkeys' eggs with purpose of the realization of daily and rising young animals for enterprises and population;
  • fattenness of the young animals for meat; production of the half-finished products from turkeys' meat.

One of the directions of scientific-technological process in the field of poultry-keeping is creation and usage the modern crosses of poultry that are corresponded to the demands of modern enterprise.

Nowadays the variety of crosses of turkeys is made by our breeders. Turkeys are intended for deep recycling of meat and producing different meat products.

Experimental station has licences on the right of the action of pedigree plant on the breeding of turkeys of the cross "Universal" and turkeysof genepooled flock. Two-lined cross "Universal" and breeds of turkeys: white wide-breasted, white Moskovskaya, white North-Caucasus, silver North-Caucasus, bronze North-Caucasus, Uzbek palevaya, black Tihoreckaya put in the United state register of selected achievements of the Russia Federation. Breeders of state scientific institution "North Caucasus zonal experimental station onpoultry-keeping" of the Russian Agricultural Academy made the cross of turkeys "Universal" in 1998-2003; cross is confirmed in 2004.

This cross is named "Universal" not by chance. The poultry of this cross has white plumage, is differed by wide breast, high speed of growth, is adapted to the conditions of the Russian regions, is steady to the diseases. Optimal term of fatten of young animals is 20 weeks for female; 26 weeks for male. The carcass has weight from 4,6 kg to 8,9 kg and is characterized by excellent meat qualities.
